In this blog I will be talking about one of my favourite actors -Donald Glover. Not related to Danny Glover -trust me. He plays a character named Troy on a show called Community, but he is more known for his role in a sketch comedy group, Derrik Comedy. They were known because of there obscene, in a good way, videos on YouTube. He was also a writer for a show called 30 Rock. That was probably the turning point in his career. On top of his busy acting schedule he as made a movie with the sketch comedy group Derrik Comedy. The movie is called Mystery Team. The movie is about a group of three high school students who won't give up their dreams of being detectives. Once again, on top of all these things -he is also a rapper and DJ. He uses the aliases MC DJ, for DJing, and Childish Gambino, for rapping. The reason for his aliases is because his mom is a very religious and she won't not approve of the lifestyle he talks about having in his rap songs. Donald Glover is a hero of mine, weather he likes it or not. To make him sound more awesome than he already it, he wants to play the first black Peter Parker -which is awesome. So just for the hell of it, #Donald4Spiderman. I totally approve.

This movie is BUSTED
In this blog I will be talking about Broken Social Scene's new movie coming out -well it's not really theres. Here is the link to the trailer. The movie is all based on music performed by Broken Social Scene. The whole movie is filmed in Toronto. It was filmed last year around the time that Broken Social Scene was being broken into the mainstream scene -see what I did there? The trailer is very powerful and I can't wait to see this movie.

Tempest
I solidly enjoyed this years art show. Sure I never really got to make a movie through the IDP course(s) but I learned a couple of valuable lessons. Being the gentleman I am, I will not publicly share the lessons I learned. If you want a hint they involve swear words and money. Those two usually make a good combination, but not when you want to go to sleep when you're up at 3 in the morning. Anyways, I was very proud with what people came out with for this years art show. I enjoyed Gameboy because I liked how much the group collaborated while making the movie. It was really inspiring and I hope I am able to have that kind of chemistry with a group in grade 12. I also really liked Hello Goodbye. I think it did lack a little communication within the movie, see what I did there, but it came out well. A lot of the current grade twelves were saying that we were one of the best groups of the film course that Mary Ward has seen. Them saying that made me very proud to be a member of the group. To be fair, I never really made a movie so I can't involve myself in that group -but I will because I like to feel good about myself because I am a human being and I enjoy being praised.
My overall favourite movie from this years art show was Plug in, Baby! by AJ. The amount of time put into this movie was ridiculous. I liked hearing AJ complaining about the editing and rendering because I never had a chance to do so. It also made me feel involved and I like that. For the rest of the art show I think it looked magnificent. I hope that next year can top it.
(Sorry if this post makes no sense, it's 3 in the morning. I think I should just get an A for Affort. Yes, affort.)

Children of woMen
I enjoyed both the book and the film. Out of the two, I have to admit that the movie was more action packed and it had my attention for a longer time than the book did. The book's problem was that it took to long to get good. We had to suffer through a whole first act where Theo was just writing a useless diary, or if you want me to be modern -just another blog to get lost in the sandbox of blogs we already have. I really liked the book because it was very interesting and unique. I really enjoyed how Theo's character developed a pair of -well, you know. It was quite inspirational and it was also a "FINALLY!" moment. During the first chapter you thought that Theo's character was going to be the same old hard headed character throughout the whole book.
Like I said, I liked the movie more than the book. This is for several reasons. The main reason why I enjoyed the movie more than the book is -well, I like movies more than books. I know it's not something I should admit, but I know that a lot of people agree with me. The other reason I enjoyed it was because it had my attention the whole time. On top of all that, the first half of the movie wasn't about how miserable someone's life was. Another part of the movie I liked was the character Kee. As we know, she was not in the book. At first I was slightly annoyed by it, but once I thought about how much more poetic the story became because of this young African actress -I loved it.
Needless to say I give the book 6 diary entries out of 12 diary entries.
I give the movie 9 strawberry cough joints out of 13 strawberry cough joints.

Jude Law
I think the new craze of word clouds is pretty cool. I use to like looking at pictures like this and I always wondered how people who had no experience with Photoshop could make such pictures. Since you brought up Wordle it answered that question for me. I like this kind of art, but I don't like how accessible it is. Nor do I like the fact that a five year-old can do it. It takes the cool out of it. Since a lot of people don't know about Wordle, I think it might not be used as much as it normally would. I'm sure if I showed the website to a bunch of people, I'm almost positive that a large majority of the group of people who will re-use the site would be thirteen to sixteen year-old girls who like these kinds of things. Did I mention that these girls know what love is? They also won't stop talking about Edward and Jacob. They also believe that those three things actually exist. Don't get me wrong, I think it's an awesome idea but doing it yourself on Photoshop gives you a chance to make the artwork more unique and you can make it look the way you want. You can also choose where you want your words to be. That's another thing, they don't let you change word sizes and you don't get to chosse where you want the words to be. I think that would be a good think if they added that feature. I give Wordle five screaming tweens out of twelve.

Stationery

The animation I chose to watch was called Stationery. This great animation was directed by Monica Rho. It was over four minutes long, five minutes and twenty seconds, but it was worth the watch. The animation was about a girl who needed to get paperclips. She needed the paperclips to hand in an assignment that her boss assigned her to do. She was not allowed to use staples for an unknown reason. So the main character ends up spending her whole day trying to get paperclips. When she finally gets her paperclips she realizes that someone else, who was doing the same assignment, had used staples to hand in their assignment. This animation was quite intresting to watch for a large number of reasons, well one but it was shown several times. It had great transitions between scenes and it really made me think of how long it took them to do these transitions. I think this animation is worth watching only because of the transitions. Don't get me wrong, I like the story and all, but I prefer the transitions. I'm not sure what happen at the end of this animation but it has something to do with her plant? They lost me at that part. They could have just ended the story with the girl going to bed. It's just a personal opinion. I'm just hoping I did not miss out on some important message by not understanding why they ended the animation by looking at the plant. Overall I give this animation seven staples out of twelve.
